Saving money on
hotels can sometimes be easy
by Jon Mitchell
By using a little bit of intelligence, great savings can be made -
sometimes - by making use of new web sites which offer hotel rooms in a
similar mechanism to budget flights.
Hotels.com is one and you simply type in your destination and it offers
a variety of hotel rooms, which are heavily discounted during low
occupancy periods.
This is when you can get some great discounts on rooms, especially in
four or five star hotels. There are also many other similar sites on
the net offering discounted prices for hotel stays.
Used cleverly and planning your trip with the same nouse, then you
could trim several hunded pounds or even thousands off you annual
travel expenses.
Other ways of saving money on longer stays is rent an apartment
(furnished) in the location where you are heading. Again you can do
this through the Internet or may prefer to review it personally. This
is a standard tactic of many wire agencies like AFP, etc., who often
rent an apartment when covering a story which looks like it will go on
for some time.
Cheaper hotels can often be a good bet for a shorter stay of several
weeks, especially if you will be out of the room shooting a lot. Many
ISPs will provide broadband Internet within hours to many such hotel
rooms and this may be cheaper than a three star hotel charging you an
extortionate fee for the same. Mobile phones can also be used if
telephones are important to your work.
